Ervin Schmidt Visits SSB May Meeting
South Sound Base monthly meeting 14 May 2009 - guest speaker, WWII Submarine Veteran Ervin Schmidt.
Ervin was on the battleship USS CALIFORNIA during that Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He was soon transferred to the USS CHICAGO, were he saw battle in the South Pacific. Following his return to the U.S. he volunteered for submarine duty, serving on the USS SAURY SS189 and USS TORSK SS423. He was on the USS TORSK to fire the last torpedoes of WWII.
