2009 WWII Subvets NWR &
USSVI WRD 4 Conference
20 - 22 May 2009
On May 20, 21, & 22 2009, members of the North West Region World War II
Submarine Veterans and USSVI members from Western Region District 4 met in
Silverdale and enjoyed several days of beautiful weather and activities as
described below.
Wednesday afternoon and evening were dedicated to shipmate arrivals and a
Welcome Aboard Party.
Thursday was spent with Tours of the Bangor Submarine Base (now known as
Naval Base Kitsap) both upper and secure lower base. Most attendees
enjoyed an educational tour of the TTF (Trident Training Facility) which
includes all of the simulators of actual equipment and stations aboard the
operational Trident Submarines. 36 lucky shipmates were given a tour
of the USS Louisiana SSBN 743.
On Friday morning we attended a Memorial Day Ceremony (Tolling of the Boats)
at the Naval Undersea Warfare Museum at the Keyport Torpedo Station, which
remembered the 52 Submarines lost in World War II and the 2 Submarines lost
in the Cold War.
Friday Afternoon was spent with a cruise in a Harbor Tour boat seeing
Bremerton and the subs and ships at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
Pictures available below for viewing are divided in three sections.
Due to security reasons, no pictures were permitted to be taken on the
Bangor Base Tours or the visit to the USS Louisiana SSBN 743.
